Plates can trick your eyes
Japan has topped the world for being the healthiest nation and it has done so for the last twenty years. It is amazing that throughout last decades, Japan’s culture when it comes to health is still very consistent regardless of globalization and introduction of Western food to the country. The Japanese are well versed when it comes to Western food that has been brought into their country and although these are always available through restaurants or fast food chains, the way of eating in Japan has been imbedded onto the way some foreign food are eaten. Chefs and eaters alike are aware of the amount of food that is being served and also what makes up the food is greatly important to the consumer.

Japanese plates
The main secret in Japan’s continuous healthy streak is the plates used in serving food. They have no magical powers at all but they seem to have done the trick long before. Food in Japan is served on different small plates and in smaller portions. They have eaten like this for a long time now and have maintained the healthy, good physique the Japanese are known for. What does this mean for those who are interested in living in Japan or travelling to the country? Not only will it teach you to the culture and engage in conversation regarding fascinating differences of cultures but will also train the body to only eat what is served and not crave for more. People tend to eat whatever is put on their plates regardless if they are still feeling hungry or not which results to higher risk of obesity for those who have been trained or are used to eating using bigger plates and bigger portions. We are usually served with portions that may be more than enough for everyday consumption but has becoming normal because it is what we have been used to. Smaller plates and smaller servings have worked for the Japanese and maybe it is time that the rest of the world learns from them.
